You have to spend money...

September 3rd 2010 23:56

I apologise for the long break. I've been binge gaming on Modern Warfare 2 and Persona 4. And imagine playing several sessions of the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops in my head.

I can't resist since the release of the "Wager" trailer showcasing four unique game types for the just-announced Wager mode.

The mode can be described by the saying: you gotta spend money to make money, as players whom gain Call of Duty Points (CP) from multiplayer can double what they've earned by spending and winning it back in Wager mode.

Only the top 3 players in the game win any cash, whereas everyone else loses everything.

This mode brings geniune tension in four different game types, which is essentially a much needed revitalisation of free-for-all.

One in the chamber mode is where everyone spawns with only a pistol, one bullet, three lives and a melee weapon. You can take the bullet of the person you've shot, or resort to using melee attacks.

The next mode is Sticks and Stones, where the stick is a explosive crossbow round. Armed with only a crossbow, ballistic (projectile) knife and a Tomahawk, this mode is a more generous offering than One in the chamber, but you can bankrupt a player if you connect with the Tomohawk.

Gun Game mode looks like fun. It was a community-voted game type where everyone starts with a pistol, and progress to the next, stronger, weapon as soon as they kill another player. The person who kills another player with the final/20th tier weapon, wins. An interesting play mechanic is downgrading another players tier weapon by knifing them.

Sharp Shooter is the final game mode where everyone starts off with the same randomised weapon, but switch to another random weapon after a set time. This mode would benefit players, like Gun Game, who took the time to learn every weapon on the game, and forces players to adapt to the weapon they change to.

I'd like to flirt with danger, and Wager mode looks to satisfy that.

Can't wait for November 9th!
