Tips to Surviving Online Multiplayer Deathmatches

Getting into online multiplayer for any game is hard or near impossible. There will always be hardcore players familiar with the game since its release. Whether it would be Modern Warfare 2, Transformers: War for Cybertron, Team Fortress 2 or Uncharted 2, there are common methods used to survive longer and get kills on the battlefield.
Getting kills doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be the best shooter on the map. More often the best players outsmart others to get points with ease. One of the first things to do is to get familiar with the map. This can be achieved by simply running around as soon as the round starts. Find out where camping spots are, which chokepoints to look out for and avoid. Where can people get up to vantage points like 2nd level floors and basement levels.
Usually the most experienced players are rarely seen on ground level, so check high spots concealed from plain view.
Stick with team mates: most online console multiplayer games are usually devoid of communication, head set or not. So to increase survival in Team Deathmatches, just follow around your team mate. Let them take point. Nine times out of ten they will flush out a concealed opposition and give you enough time to get the kill when they’re the distraction.
In Uncharted 2 Team Deathmatch, you’ll see icons showing the direction of all your team mates. It’s a great reference to use so you can enter into a battle from a different direction and most likely catch several of the opposition off guard.
Modern Warfare 2 lets you see the position of your team mates on your map. You can attempt to ambush the other team from behind based on the location of your team mates and where they are facing.
Keep on moving: Most multiplayer games would give up your position whenever you shoot your gun. Your blip on the map is all the opposition needs to hunt you down and get a kill. To increase your chances of survival, take shots only when you have sufficient cover near you. The best places to start spraying are near a building you can immediately jump into.
Use cover: great to get other peoples attention while keeping safe. It also forces the enemy to move to a better vantage point: and you’ll be read to unload a clip when you see them.
Check your back and stick to the edges of maps: First thing I do when I run into a game is run around the parameter of the map: it keeps my presence low and I’m not sticking out like a strawberry on grass. Checking your back often is a high priority, besides Team Fortress 2 spawns, other games would spawn you anywhere in the battlefield.
Modern Warfare 2’s prone and crouch commands need to be used instinctively in confrontations. It makes it a little harder for the opposing force to hit you.
Throw that grenade: whenever I’m being chased by another player, I would always throw my greanade behind me: it might not hit someone, but it might give you enough time to escape and recoup.
Reload: Nothing is worse than running up to the enemy and reload right in front of them. Whenever in cover, reload. Whenever you kill the enemy, find a wall to put your back to and reload. It’s very easy to overlook.
ADS: Anyone who has played Modern Warefare 2 multiplayer has seen this acronym: it means Aim Down Sites. Like the characters seen in the Campaign mode, ADS when coming around the corner gives you a split second advantage against anyone who isn’t doing the same. Of course this doesn’t apply to Team Fortress 2.
The most important tip: Practise. The more practise you have, the more techniques and strategies you’ll figure out to outsmart others. Or check out Youtube clips, they are great help. I’ve came up with these strategies after prestiging twice on Modern Warefare 2 (I often wonder why I ever did prestige at times), played with Geekbox forum users on Team Fortress 2 on Mondays (anyone can join), recently got hooked into Uncharted 2 and dabbled into Transformers: War for Cybertron multiplayer.
So don’t feel down when you’re getting more deaths than kills. You don’t need to desperately resort to using Aimbots and Wall Hacks. Multiplayer is hard to get good at and can be overwhelming, but like anything, practise makes perfect.
