Spyro and Crash are back in 2008

April 29th 2008 13:45

Its official, old favourites Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon are back to slay down all kinds of fairy tale evils once again.

Crash and Spyro were once at the top of the platform genre on the PSone until they slowly lost their charm after the transition to the PS2, unsurprisingly quickly brushed aside in the platform war against the Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter duos.

Their PS2 outings might be just-par, but it isn’t stopping Vivendi games from releasing news of Crash and Spyro’s latest adventures on the PS3 (only for Spyro), Wii, 360, PS2, PSP (only for Crash) and DS.

Spyro's bloom attack just up'ed his wow rating on dragonhotness website

Capping off 10 years in the video game industry; Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is the third game in the PS2 franchise (not counting the PSone masterpieces) where Spyro teams up with his arch enemy Cynder, just like Crash and Cortex teaming up in Crash Twinsanity, to take on the Dark Master voiced by Mark Hamill (OMFG Luke Skywalker!!!! *sarcasm*).

New gameplay features include Spyro’s ability to fly anywhere (no more gliding!) and swapping in and out of the environment with Cynder, this can bring in puzzles where a swap is necessary to mix up the gameplay and move from one game area to another.

Crash is looking for a way to be as shiny as Spyro

Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant sees Crash take on Cortex again, who has discovered the ability to control bandicoots and mutant minds through a text-messaging device!

Like Spyro’s Cynder, Crash’s sister, Coco, is tagging along the ride as your co-op buddy.

New features include a new counter move, digging underground (for finding objects) and climbing and jumping from walls side to side like Kratos (God of War) can.

No release dates confirmed for Australia, but Spyro will be coming in fall and Crash during the next holidays this year for America.

Am I excited for their pending release? Not really. But I still like Crash and Spyro since they got me into platform games once upon a time ago.
