Sony 3D games not top HD

Sony will only allow 3D games to run at a maximum 720p to avoid slow down while playing, a step backwards since most games on the PS3 can be played at 1080p.
Sony Europe’s development manager, Simon Benson, covered by Joystiq, has chatted at the Develop conference in Brighton, discussing how Sony decided to have 3D games strictly in 720p.
The reason for the limit to 720p, instead of allowing developers to create 3D content for the highest HD screen resolution, 1080p, is for frame rate consistency. Sony’s focus is for enjoyable gameplay without the action on screen slowing down, commonly seen when many objects are moving in the screen at the same time.
I guess this is a safety concern of one less problem to worry about besides getting headaches in a short period of time.
In a separate article from Newbiesinc.com, Simon Benson has mentioned the driving genre will benefit from 3D gameplay.
“If you’re playing a racing game and you’re getting some additional information you can actually measure distances with your eyes, making it easier to judge breaking.”
Simon continues to counter his own statement, saying hardcore gamers are already good at it, but new players to racing games might pick up the skill faster than playing on a Standard Definition television.
Additional Info:
720 represent the amount of pixels shown on the screen and the ‘p’ stands for progressive scan, which means the 720 pixels are shown at once per frame, and a frame represents 1/25 of a second.
The difference between 720p and 1080p is the amount of detailed seen on the screen. Simon raised this isn’t a concern, as trained computer graphics artists found it hard to tell the difference.
