R18 meeting In November

July 25th 2010 08:49

Kotaku Australia reports the postponing of a political meeting to resolve the debate on having an R 18 system for video games till November.

The meeting was scheduled this month, but due to the upcoming Federal Election, the issue will be resolved by the Governor Generals around Australia on November 4-5.

To pass an R 18 rating to video games, all Governor General’s from each State must agree. This meeting would mark the most likely chance of the R-18 system to ever pass since the South Australian Governor General, Michael Atkinson, vacated his position on March 21 this year.

Mr Atkinson had always stood against an R-18 system.

If the rating system does pass, it would mean any video game, explicit or not, can finally be sold in Australia.

I certainly hope it does pass.

I'm just so tired of politicians "protecting our children" by penalising adults and making the task of parents really concerned about their children all the more difficult.
