PS3 Singstar seeing stars

April 29th 2008 12:01
With Singstar's profits, this guy can buy a million more sunglasses

So is the new generation Singstar as successful as its various PS2 siblings? According to Sony Europe, it’s a resounding YES.

Singstar for the PS3 has sold over 12 million copies in Europe since its release in December 6 2007: That’s nearly 5 months ago!

Since then, Singstar has been selling over 700 additional songs on its online store, My Singstar Online. There are over 140,000 registered users and over 20,000 posted videos of gamers singing their heart out into a plastic microphone.

Was the online component a success? Well making over 1 million downloads certainly sounds like it did.

I’m not surprised over the online stores popularity; it certainly beats singing the same songs and changing disks over and over. Sony Europe’s confident its karaoke franchise is making an influence on a global scale.

“(Sony) really are teaching the world to sing with SingStar – and business for 2008 is looking excellent.” the head of Sony Europe’s product marketing, Mark Hardy said.
