PS3 second, while 360 behind the pack

America’s 2008 January sales had seen the PS3 outsell the 360!
The PS3 is currently second in Hardware sales, with the Wii, unsurprisingly, in the lead.
Filefront has posted the latest hardware sales in America, with the Wii selling 274,000 consoles at the end of the month. The PS3 sold 269,000 consoles. The PS2 sold most next, then the DS and followed by a tie for Wooden Spoon between the 360 and the PSP.
Microsoft’s console sold 230,000 machines, tied with sales from Sony’s portable console.
To be fair to 360 owners, this could be a result of more demand for the console than Microsoft can supply after Christmas. It sold over 1,260,000 over the Christmas period, which sold more than 460,000 consoles then the PS3.
The PS3 is the only console during Christmas that sold less than a million machines, only selling 796,600 consoles.
Non-surprisingly overall, the DS has sold the most machines during Christmas. The mighty, portable touch pad console sold 2,470,000 of itself during Santa’s run.
At the end of Saint Nick’s parade, the Wii sold most second with 1,350,000 consoles in America, followed by the 360 selling 1,260,000 consoles, then the PS2, followed by the PSP.
Gamerverdict: This is great news for PS3 fans since January has created a surge in new PS3 owners in America, with a bright year ahead for the black console.
