No PAL of mine

September 16th 2008 04:23
If only it's in english text and says PAL at the top right >.<

What’s worse, a video game banned for being too extreme, or a video game that isn’t released at all? Where are you Xenosaga 3 ol’ PAL?

An issue plaguing the gaming community is the Australian Government refusing to amend an “R” rating for video games. If we have an R rating, we would be given a chance to play video games no matter what the subject matter is. As for now, its getting an MA rating or face a “Your banned” stamp on the games PAL visa.

What gets me ticked is the PAL region system. This means, I believe, a game is being tweaked so it’s ready to be playable in PAL region systems. We end up waiting for already translated games 8 month’s in advance, I’m looking at you Rogue Galaxy, or even never, hello Xenosaga 3!

Xenosaga 3 was meant to be release around November 2006, which concluded one of the most closely followed prequels in the RPG kingdom, but it soon left release dates and forgotten in a sea of one’s and zero’s. Now that all hope of a possible PAL release is dashed away like an empty plate in a bistro, I can only quench my gaming needs built up from the long wait for this game in the form of watching a possible 2,050 videos of other people enjoying the game on Youtube.

Is neglecting a series created as a prequel to the rare RPG masterpiece known as Xenogears the only title to not be released? Xenosaga 1 didn’t, but to Square-Enix’s credit, they released a disk with all the cut scenes from the game in the PAL version of Episode 2.

In the end, I’m not saying which problem deserves more attention, but should be given equal attention to. I think it will be a huge undertaking to change PAL versions of gaming consoles into multi regions, which would mean EVERY single console would need to be replaced or bought again.

I know this sounds like a BLAM piece on the PAL region, but this problem encourages piracy to be the only option for gamers to get their hands on the game. I don’t plan to chip my PS2 so I’ll have to live with the disappointing, and long overdue, news.

Does anyone waited for a game and realized it will never be published in Aus?
