FF13 trailer 4 impressions

DISCLAIMER: I’ve played all the games in the series and Final Fantasy is one of the reasons why I’m into gaming today. So by no means am I a FF hater.
Being a Final Fantasy fan means there are certain expectations need to be met before the latest trailer induces me into a smiling blob on the floor.
It does happen, but not for the latest trailer at filefront for Final Fantasy 13.
I guess what I haven’t seen yet is originality in the trailer: it has the colours of Final Fantasy 12, the enemies look like Helghast deported from Killzone. It showed a group of minor characters that look like Yevon supporters pulled out from Final Fantasy 10. But I see the potential: Epic wars raging between a small faction against a sweltering army run by evil doers… wait isn’t that from Final Fantasy 7?
At least we do get to see actual combat!
What I did find interesting is the chance to juggle attacks with magic in one turn. It looked majorly satisfying to see an enemy get beating up to one inch of their life and get blizzara’ed in mid air.
I just can’t wait to see the next trailer that will show me something mesmerizing, like every Final Fantasy trailer before it. FF8 witnessed one of the first epic, 3D fighting cutscenes on the PSone. FF9 showed, for the first time, an airship flying overlooking a beautiful city and our first look at a black mage in 3D. FF10 showed even more impressive graphics, since it was the first FF on the PS2, unique characters and a setting yet to have been touched in previous titles. And FF12 introduced a country-vs-country setting with a sense of scale bigger than any other FF title. I thought Final Fantasy versus 13 trailers, even with its FF7 undertones, it was also epic because it introduced a bad ass character in all his HD glory.
Square Enix has proven sequel after sequel that they can create an original Final Fantasy title. I’m still waiting for FF13 to pull out a big dose awesomeness from its belt like Versus 13 did, I hope the next trailer can prove me wrong.
