Capcom Isn't Crying Over Dante's Look

Capcom is taking the "any publicity is good publicity" approach to their latest franchise reboot.
Love or hate Dante’s new look, everyone can agree the new Devil May Cry game has sparked more interest than ever before.
Even if it is not necessarily for the good reason.
Not since Cole from Infamous 2 was transformed into a younger, different person. Dante’s new look has sparked major anger from dedicated fans across forums in the gaming spectrum.
Capcom VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development, Chris Svensson, told IGN he expected this outcry for pulling a Cole.
"We knew that going into it ... I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante."
To dig the knife deeper into all the fanboys against the new look, Keiji Inafune and Hideaki Itsuno gave Ninja Theory the back hand for showing similar concept designs to the original Dante.
“No guys this needs to be completely different, we need you to go further and be much more creative.” Svensson reiterated from the internal talks with the creator of Mega Man and the Chief Director of Devil May Cry 4.
And unlike Cole, whose negative response caused developer, Sucker Punch, to redesign him back to what most gamers remember from the original game. Ninja Theory is sticking to their guns with Dante’s new design with a much more legitimate reason: It’s a prequel. So there is plenty of room for him to evolve into the white headed badass seen in the last 4 games.
Personally, I’m more worried Ninja Theory would create a flawed gameplay system than Dante’s appearance. The basis of Devil May Cry is its responsive controls and over-the-top action. Reaction to the gameplay from their previous titles: Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, aren’t very positive.
Fingers crossed they can deliver what is being promised.
