Big country still waits for Wii
June 2nd 2008 22:28
The mother of all delays is here as Australia isn’t the only country getting it tough.
China is still waiting for their Wii consoles to launch, that’s over 1.3 billion people deprived from the Wii.
Last year, Reuters reported at a press conference with Ninty president Satoru Iwata confirming Wii’s expected release in the land of red and yellow.
Korean’s FINALLY got their Wii’s on April this year, but hit a brick wall in sales for good reason. We might be faced with banned, censored and “having to wait for a bloody long time” games, but Korean’s were reported to contend with an exclusive region code system AND, get this, NO Gamcube support! A Wii Resident Evil Zero confirmed only for Japan would make more sense to be confirmed in Korea.
It’s ok the PS3 doesn’t have playback because nearly every gamer in the world owns a PS2, but the poor sales of the lonely Gamecube globally means many gamers in Korea will have to spend heaps of their currency to play imports of kickass Gamecube titles like the first two Metroid Prime games, Zelda: Wind Waker, Eternal Darkness and Super Smash Brothers Melee among others.
Wii Korean sales just contribute 0.2 per cent in Nintendo’s position as Top Selling console, with Korean market estimates around 30,000 to 40,000 consoles sold in its debut – no surprise here for connecting the puzzle.
At least the rest of Europe will be facing every delay together, however Korea faces their delays by themselves; they have to wait for popular games to be translated and reviewed before release in their language. Well, at least its not all doom and gloom for gamers in Aus.
