Assassin's Creed 2 - The art of deception

July 23rd 2010 11:12

When running on the rooftops of buildings, jumping to ledges and climbing to the highest point and observe the large world I've been traversing in. I can't help but feel the need to go outside of the house, stretch my legs, and run like there is no tommorow... But the thought soon decipates and I continue playing Assassin's Creed 2 for another hour.

Treasure and Assassination Contracts

There is certainly a lot of fun to be had when being an assassin named Enzio in Italy. There is a lot to do and its all fun, thanks to the responsive controls and different sub-missions. You'll spend hours finding all the treasure chests in each of the towns. Population in the 100's. Then you have assassination missions, which differ between kills without getting seen, locate and assassinate within a time limit, and just plane go to the location marker and plow through waves of enemies to reach your target. Fighting can be a time consuming process, enemies block 95% of your attacks every time Ezio strikes, which forces players to get the instant kill by countering their attack... if they ever attack that is. Life is short and the amount of content to get through this game demands the quickest methods to get through each scenario in the game. Confrontations are time consuming, but there are thankfully, other ways to bypass sword battles.

Courtesans, Thieves and Mercenaries.

Whenever I see a door leading to a codex page or treasure chest, the first thing I do is bolt away and find the nearest group of escorts. I know what your thinking and no, I do not do this in my spare time, calling courtesans to your aid is actually a valid tactic to avoid a fight. With a press of a button, the 'sophisticated' ladies will swoon the guards from the distance, forcing them to walk away from what they are guarding, and Ezio can casually walk through the door and still the dough. Quick and easy.

Mercenaries are like escorts, give them a bit of coin, point them to the group of guards you want them to attack, and they will hack away at them. And thieves are like mercenaries, except they force the guards to chase them by stealing their cash.
